Passionate. Ambitious. Determined. Focused. Driven. Motivated. Tenacious. Persistent.
These are all words that can be used to describe my commitment to increasing my basketball IQ.
My name is Harrison K. Long, and basketball is my chosen sport. I enjoy basketball because it is a game that challenges me to match my energy with setting the pace of the game and to provide leadership to my team both on and off the court.
My goal is to become an elite Division One basketball player.
I am currently a high school sophomore shooting guard at Mount Michael Benedictine High School under head coach, Derek Spooner in Elkhorn, Nebraska. I will graduate high school in May, 2024
My interest in basketball started when I was in the third grade. Although I played competitively in other sports like football and track, my focus turned exclusively to basketball in the seventh grade.
I come from a family of Division One athletes. My father, Dewayne K. Long Sr. played Division One football for Iowa State, and my brother, Dewayne K. Long Jr. played Division One football for the University of Nebraska. I benefit from their personal experiences to play at an elite level.
I understand the enormous commitment it takes to play at an elite level which is why I participate in a very strict year round workout schedule which includes natural body weights of push-ups, sit-ups, body squats, toe raises, bicep arm curls, and tricep curls.
I play competitive league basketball in the summer months, and organized team play during school. I also practice shooting every Monday, Wednesday and Friday year round.
I am committed to a year round practice schedule to help improve both my mental and physical game.
This dedication has helped develop my muscle memory which I feel is important in intense game situations. My best high scoring games found me shooting 43 points and 48 points in two separate back to back games.
Being a strong team player is a vital part of any successful team sport. Basketball is no exception. As a shooting guard, I understand the leadership role I serve as for the teams that I am honored to play on.
I am looking forward to continuing to enhance my leadership skills both on and off the court. I want to be an important part of a Division One team in the future, and I know that my commitment to practicing the game I am most passionate about will provide me with the opportunity to do just that.
Thank you for your interest in my game. I look forward to the opportunity to take my game to the next level.
